Golden Sun

Genre: RPG
Release: 2002
Platform: Gameboy Advance
Graphics: Awesome, regarding the fact that is was one of the earlier games for the GBA, back when nobody really knew how to utilize it's hardware right for the best results.
Story: Also awesome, it's difficult to explain, since the game has a sequel, and the whole story, the REAL story unfolds in that one. to put it simple, it's kinda about magic (called "psynergy" in this game, invisible to everyone who can't use it themselves) breaking free, and before the entire world is destroyed, you run around as a group of four people, trying to save the planet. Now, this looks very simple, but trust me, one could write not only one book to explain what is really going on.
Awesome Fact: The game features so called "djinns", small magically creatures. They are to be found all around the world, and if you encounter one you have to battle it. If you win the battle, the djinn joins you. Now what can you do with them? You can "equip" them to your characters. What it does? Depending on the equipped djinns, the characters stats and skills are changed. There are four kinds of psynergy in this game, mars (fire), venus (earth), jupiter (wind) and mercury (water), and so it happens that there are four kinds of djinns in this game. So if you equip the mars-character in your party with only mars-djinns, he will learn awesome fire-spells, easy. but what might happen if you give him like 3 mercury, 2 venus and one mars? WHO KNOWS YOU GOTTA TRY MAN. There are endless possibilities, and while not everyone might be useful, there are a whole lot which are plain ownage.
Another thing: you can "summon" the equipped djinns during fights for extra super attacks. Problem: once summoned, the djinns need some turns before they are bound back to the character, so the character is weakened for a small amount of time.

RATING: 9/10

  24. Mmmm kinda odd how you just put graphics and story as two things. There are lot of components to a game like music and gameplay to also focus on. Alright review. Think you delved a little into a small thing such as summoning too much.
